• The following items will apply around the clock, not subject to the 7am-7pm rule.
  • The surgeon will always bill for the admit H&P.
  • The surgeon will bill for critical care time, if appropriate (and it usually is with good documentation), beginning when the patient leaves the ED.
  • The emergency physician will bill for critical care time, if appropriate, for the time the patient is in the ED.
  • Thus, in many cases, both groups will be billing for distinct and different critical care time.
  • Procedures will be billed by the physician who staffs them, which will usually fall within the current day/night guidelines.
  • If there is any doubt as to staffing, the two physicians will discuss and decide who will bill for the procedure
